Week 7

Our final week at the beautiful Roydon Fen.  There were mixed emotions for all of us; we were happy to be there, but sad that this was the last session.

Guess what?  No muddy pictures this week!

The children were excited to explore new ways of crossing the stream, they worked out that they could tie the two ropes to trees on each side.  Grace, Shannon and Josh decided that the ropes needed to be really tight, so I showed them how to tie an alpine butterfly knot and a round turn and two and half hitches! Then everyone pulled on the end of the rope to make sure it was really tight.

Shannon was first to try out the rope bridge... very brave.

She made it!

Josh calls everyone over to tighten the rope again.

Grace sets off...

...and speedily made it to the other side.

Well done Ryan!
Several other children took a turn at crossing the stream after I'd stopped pointing the camera at them!

We  toasted marshmallows over a fire and chatted about our favourite moments at Forest School.

At the very end Honey suggested that a fitting end to our Forest School sessions would be if...
"Ange gets in the hammock and we all push her really high!"

And that is precisely what they did, then they all jumped in with me for a photo!

Thank you to all of you that took part and made Forest School so wonderful. :)

Week 6

The weather forecast for today was for windy weather, possibly wind speeds of up to 44 mph .... definitely too windy to be in the woods with the risk of falling branches.

So we spent the afternoon on Brewer's Green.....

We made carrier bag kites, everyone had fun running about trying to get them into the air... but the 44 mph winds never arrived.  The kites have been taken home to play with on a windier day.

Next we went down by the pond to make rafts...

We floated them on the water...

Some children carried on with rafts and others went to play in the mud!

The mud was much stickier on Brewer's Green than it is in Roydon Fen ... above Amy is rescuing Chanya's wellies after she ran barefoot across the mud leaving them behind!

Week 4

Ooops, no pictures
........Camera battery was flat, sorry!

Week 5

What a lot of fun we had today......

As you can see we just can't get enough of the mud!

Some children made it their mission to see just how deep they could sink!

Harry Potter came to visit today and even whittle a wand :)

Qingfeng took it easy for a while in the hammock.

Grown ups get to play too....thanks for the push Qing

The river crossing!
(Don't panic it was a small stream, deeper areas were marked out of bounds and adults were keeping an eye on things)

In the 'River'
Gabriel suggested that they should build a crossing with branches they found in the woodland.

In all the noise and excitement it was difficult to hear about your bridge Gabriel.

New boots!

Qing was really focused using a bushcraft knife to whittle a wand.
